Abstract

This article highlights the background of the problems encountered by SMEs which is related to SMEs performance. It also indicates that the financial-based performance indicators are insufficient to judge the overall performance of SMEs. The importance of shifting focus from short term to long-term objectives of the SMEs business is briefly stated. The literature review method was applied to explore the SME performance problems, which has been outlined and justified by the significance of the need of more research efforts in this field and especially in Malaysia. The specific solution to the problem should be reviewed so that SMEs performance can be improved further in the future.
